CYPSA se webblad oor Lady Gaga (Die mense is net eenvoudig simpel).

Speaking with the people at the Department: Arts and Culture (DAC) this morning revealed an interesting fact, namely that DAC has no say in whether any artist or performer may or may not enter the country and do any shows. It is therefore a mystery why CYPSA has included DAC in its communications. The correct authority is the Film and Publication Board (FPB), which operates under the auspices of the Department: Home Affairs.

In order to balance things out just a teensy bit, we sent the following e-mail to the Film and Publication Board earlier today, CCing CYPSA.

Subject: Lady Gaga

To whom it may concern:

It has come to our attention that there are some groups of people who oppose the artist Lady Gaga's imminent visit to South Africa.

We have reviewed the reasons for their opposition to Lady Gaga's visit and consider those reasons to be specious, contrived, unsubstantiated, ill-founded and grossly naive.

We are not ardent fans of Lady Gaga and have no vested interest in whether she visits SA or not. However, we do believe that exposure to artistic novelty, different cultures and alternative viewpoints can rarely, if ever, be intrinsically harmful -- just the opposite, actually.

Consequently, we wish to make the FPB aware of our wholehearted support for Lady Gaga's proposed SA tour. We also would ask the FPB to take note of our complete rejection of the puerile reasoning offered by assorted special interest groups in favour of barring Lady Gaga's entry into our beautiful and diverse country.

The greatest enemy of growth and progress is the small mind.

Sincerely,
Some Truly Concerned Citizens

The CYPSA busybodies should get the message, methinks.
