For a while we also had news reports of Jesus' image being found everywhere on things like burnt toast and soiled washing (I wonder why none were found on used toilet paper?). The best one I saw was a sceptics photo of his Golden Retrievers bum. The fur lay and colouring around it and on the legs made an image of a person in robes with long hair and the nought as the face!

I bet if anyone was motivated enough they could find faces on used loo roll. Our brains are programmed to recognise faces in random patterns even if the face doesn't exist. Hence the man on the moon, face on mars, Jesus of the Burnt Toast, and possibly, Madonna of the Twin Ply.

Carl Sagan puts it perfectly:

... the pattern-recognition machinery in our brains is so efficient in extracting a face from a clutter of other detail that we sometimes see faces where there are none.
