Hello all.

Time for the April meeting of Johannesburg Sceptics in the Pub. On Wednesday, 6 April from 7PM we'll be meeting at Dros in Cresta.

If you'd like to see the details of the event please you can ogo to the event page on Facebook or you can view the details on the plancast page.

Owen has put the event details on "Plancast" to test if it's a better service for our event-planning needs.

You can subscribe to a public RSS feed to hear about new events being planned. You can also sign-up anonymously with an eMail address (or with your Facebook account or Twitter account) to "count me in". We would really appreciate it if you'd use Facebook or the Plancast event to indicate if you plan to be there so that we get an idea of the numbers we'll have to accomodate. Some of the recent meetings have been so large that we've had to book tables ahead of time.

Through Plancast you can export events directly to your Google/Outlook/other calendar. It's a free service (unlike Meetup) and you can still view meeting details without an account (although we'd prefer it if you would click "count me in").

For the time being we'll post all Johannesburg events on both Facebook and Plancast, but we might migrate all planning to the Plancast service in future.

Visit http://plancast.com/sitpjoburg to have access to the RSS feed of new events and to "subscribe" to hear about new events. If you create a Plancast account, remember to edit you settings to be eMailed when someone you've subscribed to shares a new plan.

Hope to see you all there!

I am certain there is a reason for having the jhb meetings midweek, but I find it very hard to make them due to working hours, and living on the Eastrand etc.

Has anyone considered a weekend meeting now and again?

Hi Myst,

We conducted a survey at the end of 2009 to determine the best dates and locations for meetings. Wednesday was the winner at that time and we stuck with it. Weekends were one of the top favourites but some people felt that they want their weekends for other social gatherings. Since this survey we have changed locations from time to time. At the time of the survey and through most of 2010 we alternated between meetings in Edenvale and Randburg. But the Edenvale meetings were very poorly attended and Edenvale has been switched to Sandton on alternating months.

If you're interested in traveling a bit further on weekends, the Pretoria SITP is usually held on weekends at around lunch time leaving the morning free for errands and the afternoon/evening free for other socialising.

We will conduct another survey soon to see if we should change dates or venues. There were 12 respondents to the survey in 2009 and many of them weren't actually able to attend the meetings. These days we have between 13 and 20 people at the meetings so their opinions may vastly differ from the original respondents. Because the meetings are now being managed by the Gauteng Skeptics we will be in a position to invite speakers (for a fee) or organise additional weekend events if the interest is there.
