The Walkerville Ghost

(1/4) > >>

Mefiante (September 14, 2006, 16:30:17 PM):
Allegedly a regular apparation in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg, this phantom headless biker has been around for a few decades now without making the Big Time. Every so often this tale is resurrected by one or other visitor to Walkerville who hears of it from the locals. I took it upon myself a few days ago and waited - alone - for almost five hours around the witching hour, periodically flashing my headlights, as required for the ghost to appear.

Guess what?

Nil result.

More information on this ephemeral entity can be found here and here.

Cool story though, where exactly is Walkerville?
Mefiante (September 15, 2006, 14:06:57 PM):
Walkerville is, as the crow flies, about 30 km south-south-south-west of JHB. It's basically a spread out village comprised of an erstwhile rural/farming community that managed to generate a fair amount of collective wealth. When one drives through the place, one sees many roadside stalls, large stone houses and large plots on which are cultivated an assortment of fruit and vegetables, and animal produce, including honey.

I remember the story of the ghost being reported in the late 70s or early 80s in a magazine that has since become defunct. And, no, it wasn't Huisgenoot either.

I know that you believe that you have seen, as do many other people. I, too, have spent many hours there, some with acquaintances who claim to have seen the ghost, but I never once observed anything out of the ordinary. I also know of others who have gone there to await the ghost without the knowledge of the locals. The funny thing is that the "ghost" always manifests when there are locals about who believe in it and know that someone is watching for it.

And please spare me the "china, you must be opened minded" stuff. It has nothing to do with open-mindedness (to the extent that your brains fall out, as it has been said) and everything to do with evidence. I'll believe when the evidence merits belief.

You're on. Name a date and time that is convenient for you, preferably early in the new year, and we can do some ghost hunting. I'll need about an half hour to set up some instruments. This is necessary because testimonials are not acceptable evidence. I would also appreciate it if an absolute minimum number of people were to become involved in this enterprise.

Please also provide me with some details regarding optimal viewing conditions (times, weather, season, phase of the moon, etc.) so that I or others can independently repeat the observations if need be.
