The obvious solution: push up retirement age. You can't have people retiring en masse at sixty and then sit around twiddling their thumbs until Jesus comes to fetch them twenty or thirty years later. I for one have no intention to retire until such time as they start hammering the nails into the coffin. Considering who is probably going to be in charge of our retirement funds by then, I'll probably not ave a choice anyway. :-)
Mhmmm. I'm entering middle age and am starting to save aggressively independent of a pretty aggressive retirement fund because I'd like my retirement to come EARLY if at all possible. That way I'd have some time to maybe do something else to make even more cash. The way things are going I have this feint suspicion also that all retirement funds will be socialised at some point anyway, and I can't really count on it as anything other than a "last ditch" effort. This is also why I'm doing offshore investment. Only way to hedge against crazy.
Me, I'm too poor to save at all. I'm only semi-employed, and thus in semi-retirement anyway. At my advanced age I am now studying again, but seeing as it is art I'm studying, I don't count on that as ever generating any income. So I'll have to keep on doing odd jobs until I croak. I'm not sure I mind all that much.
