Earth Hour

It sounds simple, but it is very, very dramatic. At 7.30pm on March 31st
2007, we will be encouraging companies, government departments,
individuals and families to turn off their lights for just one hour. If
we meet our objectives during the first Earth Hour, the savings in green
house gas emissions will be the equivalent of taking 75,000 medium sized
cars off the road for one whole year! Now that's something worth doing.

A very nice idea, but we're way ahead of them with "load shedding" ;D

hehe, had no idea eskom was so environmentally conscience ;)

Talking about Escom. I was greatly surprised that Escom was advertising free energy saving globes in my area. They set up a day when they would come around the neighbourhood and exchange all old globes for the new efficient globe. Kudos to them.

[...]exchange all old globes for the new efficient globe

...indeed, that is quite an initiative.

I read in a news paper article not to long ago that Australia is attempting to ban incandescent light bulbs. I don't fully agree with the forceful aspect of that, but something needs to be done. There seems to be great inertia in adapting new technology in areas such as this.
