At the last SITP, we discussed having a picnic at Groenkloof or Freedom Park. I just wanted to start a topic so that it can be discussed.

If it's a picnic (during the day) I can probably make it. Sounds like a good idea. I'm in.

Any suggestions for a location?

If it's a picnic we could use the Botanical Gardens. But if it's an indoor thing how about Grafter's Tavern in Newlands (we can sit outside on the patio, the service is good and the food is inexpensive and well prepared ... and it's where I play my Thursday gig so they know me and I can do the booking).

I am also very happy with the idea of getting together during the day. Grafters is a good spot in my opinion too. If picnic is the thing, the botanical gardens are cool. Also an option - I had a picnic/braai yesterday at the LC de Villiers sports grounds - no entry fee there and braai facilities, which is lacking at the botanical gardens.

Yes. LC De V is a brilliant suggestion (if we're going the outdoors route) - and it is nice and central. I'm still not convinced that outdoors is gonna work (too many unpredictable factors like weather and unexpected crowds). My vote is indoors, I like Grafters because of the covered stoep in case of rain (we're headed for the rainy season).

Grafters sounds like a plan. Will wait and see if anyone has any different suggestion, and make a call by Wednesday. Will still do it in the middle of the day

Agreed, thanks Mandarb. You are a star. I'll keep an eye out on the site and then make the appropriate booking when we've all all agreed.

Consider it done. :-) I will be there (and probably bring my kids too - they are both atheists and of the sceptical persuasion).

\o/ Yay! It's gonna be cool to get the Pretoria SITP going again. My daughter will be there too. BTW Grafters food is brilliant and inexpensive (their munchies basket is excellent, and they make an awesome chicken/feta/chili-mayo tramazini).

I'll set up the next one for the 23rd. Anyone have a idea for a location?

Grafters is cool, good food, a bit out of the way.
Toni's is the same, nearer to some people than others.

Tony's sounds cool. Where is Tony's? I've got a wedding on the 23rd but may be able to make the lunch hour (and you guys get to see me in a suit - heheh). I will bring my daughter again and hopefully my son. Last month was awesome and the re-start of Pretoria SITP (hopefully).

Toni's Fully Furnished Pizzeria. It's the area behind the Union Buildings.

I have nothing against Toni's - haven't been there in ages. If more people are located all over the show, then somewhere closer to Centurion side is not a bad idea. The Braza at Irene Village Mall I hear is nice.  Undecided

Irene might be a plan, even the Milk Farm. Previous reason for Tonis is that some of the people live/work near Tuks

as far as i know, its me, faerie, and boogie joburg side.  dont know about the rest.
so i guess it's a case of majority rules.
the thing about pretoria is, if i travel alone, then i have to dodge traffic cops with my dodgy car.  if i travel with my s/o, then closer is better.  we drive in his car, he doesnt say anything, but he gets cranky when we drive too far. (when it doesnt involve warhammer or bloodbowl)
allso, daviff  lives in lyttleton, and i can maybe drag him along if it's closer to centurion.

I am in the Southern end of Pretoria - so close to Irene/Centurion etc. I don't mind driving though. Especially if its during the daylight hours (my housemate might want to join, in which case his male dominance takes over, and he wants to drive, despite the fact that he cant see at night.) FML

I live in Irene Centurion. Cool if it's closer to home and closer for our Jhb peops. Will check out the link.

Hi, just found this forum (just goes to show how big this internet thing is) I've been surviving on podcasts, blogs, and (giving away my age here) books up till now.

I'll make a plan to get just about anywhere just to meet some like minded people, but Centurion side would suit me better.

Poll results are in, although it's a tie between the Country Cafe and Braza. We'll go for the one that's easier to get to, which is Braza. It's located inside the Irene Mall. The mall is on the corner of the R21 highway and Nellmapius road, so there is a few options for the Joburg people to get there, either the N1 or R21.
