The little things that irk us so

What many of the proponents of these ideas don’t seem to grasp even slightly is that it’s counterproductive to try and guilt people into feeling a sense of outrage about this or that issue. Plus, the audience soon develops a type of battered woman syndrome where they become numb and desensitised to these things, mostly due to the sheer number and variety of things about which they’re told they’re supposed to be passionate. The cause of feminism has not, in my view, advanced much in the past two or three decades precisely because of this effect. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that many men feel alienated, confused, and discouraged by the unrelenting battery of the fiercer feminists’ antics. And men being men, I reckon they’re more likely to react with a stoic “Well, in that case, up yours” than any actual concern.

Yup, it's a bit like donor fatigue. You see one beggar at a traffic light, you feel sorry for him. You see ten beggars with their scrawny kids at every single traffic light, and it just becomes too much - your emotions can't keep up and you switch off.

And so it is not just with feminism, but with the whole array of issues that we are supposed to be passionate about today.

In the meantime, the best thing one can probably do for society today is precisely to do nothing - plow and sow your own little patch, pay your taxes and and keep out of other people's hair. Women (and black folks, and lesbians, and gays, and, and, and) are not babies, and when it comes to discrimination, they have the law firmly on their side.

Yes it has a name. Now, these folks are taking things to extremes and have a lot of wrong-headed ideas about the world and by linking this I do not endorse any viewpoints that you may find there. But it is a real phenomenon that has a shocking amount of adherents: MGTOW (mig-tao).

Well another dimension to this is that many of the complaints seem to become ever more trite over time. Now we have "micro-aggressions" which can be anything from tone of voice, to innocently calling someone by the "wrong" pronoun, or letting a woman walk through a door first (thus "subconsciously enforcing the fact that she's inferior" or some such) .... Whilst the same people will simultaneously argue that women in Islamic countries "choose" their enslavement and subjugation.

I think to a large degree the failure to really work up an outrage about these things is a fairly rational response to some of the schizophrenic gospel out there.

Schizphrenic indeed. After the atrocity of my marriage I have spoken to various "experts" in the field of transgendirism, and as pshyciatrits they can do squat all except refer these cases for gender reassignment as it is no longer deemed a psychological issue. It effectively has been normalised, and now you have wonky mothers brining in their toddlers for diagnosis and delaying puberty in order for kids to "choose". I dreamt my whole tomboy childhood to be a boy as they received more opportunities and gotattention from my Dad, my wonky mother would have for certain told me that Im a boy and what a effup that would have been. 20, 30 years from now we are bound to read horrifying tales in the You magazine....
