So as jou spieel 200mm is, is jou maksimum werkbare vergroting 400x.

Dit gaan 'n cm of so spaar.

My budget (Mev.

1. Webcam en compact refractor (F=500mm)

2. Webcam en SCT (F=2000)

3. EOS en compact refractor

4. EOS en SCT

Some more ninety-rand-webcam astrophotography. This composite image was made by de-focusing on a star and stacking about 200 *.avi frames. I think it nicely teases out the colour of the stars. Except for cropping and pasting the three stars together in one image, no further fiddling was done.

From left to right: Alpha Centauri, having a colour similar to the sun. Beta Centauri, distincly more blue, and finally the red supergiant Antares.

If it goes on like this, next thing we'll see little furry creatures from Alpha Centauri... :-)

Very nice work!

All lies, the earth is flat, you are an illuminati agent! Admit it! Those don't even look like stars!

(But seriously cool I'm all jealous)

Cheers. Smiley When the star is in focus it's too tiny and glary to yield much colour. Defocussing a bit gives rise to this coloured diffraction disc which, while not looking very star like, gives a bigger, softer surface which is presumably easier for the webcam to extract colour from.
