I loved this, the fact that we're still finding new amazing things around us in nature:

Quote
Aug. 25, 2010 - Researchers have discovered a new species of frog in Borneo which only grows to the size of a pea.

Finding the mini frogs, named Microhyla nepenthicola, proved to be a challenge due to their size. Adult males range in length from 10.6 to 12.8 millimeters.

Drs. Indraneil Das and Alexander Haas of the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, and Biozentrum Grindel und Zoologisches Museum of Hamburg, respectively, tracked the amphibians by their call.

The frogs normally start singing around dusk, making a series of harsh rasping notes that last for a few minutes, followed by brief intervals of silence. This "amphibian symphony" goes on from sundown until peaking in early evening.

Could not readily find what this critter weigh. I'm guessing 2 grams or so. The African Bullfrog, which can reach 2kg without trying, is about 1,000 times more massive!

Imagine this little guy trying to catch a fly. He'd have to wrestle it to the ground and get it into a hectic super-judo-grip or something. He probably zaps little gnats with his teeny tongue, or just pecks aphids off the plants - but imagining him catching a huge-ass fly - that's gotta be a hoot.

On Yahoo today -
Quote
JAKARTA, Indonesia – Scientists using cutting-edge technology to explore waters off Indonesia were wowed by colorful and diverse images of marine life on the ocean floor — including plate-sized sea spiders and flower-like sponges that appear to be carnivorous.
They predicted Thursday that as many as 40 new plant and animal species may have been discovered during the three-week expedition that ended Aug. 14.

Amazing to think how much there is still left to explore in a world where we hear 'nothing new under the sun' so often...

maybe we should explore our own world first, before trying to head off into space and terraform mars.

@ stevo - i can just imagine this little froggy launching pebbles at spiders when they want to graze him.

Or he will just give Spidey "The Eye" ...

Nice link Lilli, thanks. Deep ocean is awesome. My favourite photo is #5 of 8 in the series - what an amazing fellow that fishy is.
